The Ultimate Strength studio sits on East End Road, two minutes' walk south of East Finchley Underground (Northern Line). For most local clients, walking is faster than driving. The studio is appointment-only, one to one, and has been on the same floor since 2005.

Personal Strength Training, on your doorstep

Personal Strength Training at Ultimate Strength is one to one, supervised, and brief: a single forty-five-minute session a week on MedX, Nautilus and Cybex equipment, following High Intensity Training (HIT) - a slow, controlled, one-to-one strength protocol, distinct from HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).

For East Finchley residents, the geography is the main argument. The studio is closer than your nearest big-box gym, the appointment is short, and the recovery between visits is measured in days rather than session-stacking. Most local clients walk in and out.

Who comes from N2

About a quarter of our regular clients live within a fifteen-minute walk of the door. They tend to fall into a few groups, and most overlap two or three.

  • People in their 50s, 60s and 70s who want supervised loading without the noise and queueing of a conventional gym.
  • Clients managing lower back pain. Lower Back Rehabilitation is the largest single reason people first come in, often on the recommendation of a local GP, osteopath or physiotherapist.
  • People recovering from a procedure or surgery who have been cleared to load and want supervised progression.
  • Adults with osteoporosis or osteopenia training for bone density alongside whatever their doctor has advised.
  • Working professionals who want their training to fit between school drop-off and a morning of calls, not eat the evening.

Practical details for local clients

  • Walking time from East Finchley Tube: about seven minutes (350 metres south of the station, past the playing fields).
  • Parking: free unrestricted street parking on East End Road and side streets outside controlled hours.
  • Hours: Mon-Fri 07:00-19:00. Sat & Sun closed.
  • Format: every session is one to one with the same coach, on the same machines, with a written record kept every visit.

Why supervised strength training matters

Being the wrong side of 60 and having read that ‘muscle strength’ wastes away the fastest I decided to go to Ultimate Strength. Yoram has tailored each individual exercise with each piece of equipment so that if I don’t go to him twice a week I actually miss the ‘challenge’ of seeing if I can improve the number of ‘reps’ he sets.

The route from the Tube

Leave East Finchley station via the main exit onto High Road. Turn right and cross at the lights onto East End Road. Continue south for about 350 metres, past the playing fields on your right. The studio is on the left, marked by a small brass plate beside the door.
